Updated Volunteers Policy

We are incredibly fortunate at Northside Christian College to have so many volunteers working across our College in a wide range of different areas. On a daily basis we have parent, guardian, and community volunteers serving in and around our College in many capacities, including our hard-working Parents and Friends Association. Our College would not be what it is without the efforts put forth by our dedicated volunteers.

Volunteering is a practical expression of the Biblical value of serving others and an important expression of partnership within the life of the College. Volunteers serve staff and students practically, and volunteering creates opportunities for adults to model the values of God’s kingdom.

The College is most grateful for the service of our Volunteers at Northside Christian College. The Bible reminds us in Colossians 3:23-24, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” We acknowledge that this verse encourages both our paid staff and volunteers at the College.

The Executive Team at Northside Christian College has recently approved an updated Volunteers Policy (Policy No. 29). The aim of this Policy is to outline the standards of behaviour expected of all volunteers at Northside Christian College. This Policy does not attempt to provide a detailed and exhaustive list of what to do in every aspect of a volunteer’s role. Instead, it sets out general expectations of the standards of behaviour required. The Policy places an obligation on all volunteers to take responsibility for their own conduct and to work with colleagues cooperatively to achieve a consultative and collaborative College that people are happy and proud to be part of. 

The College has updated the Volunteers Policy to ensure ongoing compliance with the Child Safe Standards and Ministerial Order No. 870. The Child Safe Standards strengthen existing approaches to preventing and responding to child abuse and aim to create a culture where protecting children from abuse is part of everyday thinking and practice.

Northside Christian College is committed to developing, reviewing and implementing policies to strengthen our culture of child safety. An updated version of this policy document will be posted on the College website and will be available from the Administration Office. The updated Policy will come into effect at the commencement of Term 4 2017. The Volunteer Induction program at the College will reflect these changes at the commencement of the 2018 academic school year.
